Rolex first introduced the Submariner in 1953. In 1959, the case size was increased to 40mm and the crown guards were added, and then in 1969, the date complication was introduced in the Submariner. It was also the year when Rolex made the first Submariner in gold.

Since then, there has been minor incremental changes to the model both in terms of aesthetic as well as the technical side of things. The ceramic bezel was introduced in 2010, and in 2020, the case size was increased to 41mm.

The Rolex Submariner 116610LV, affectionately known as the “Hulk”, is not just a watch—it’s an icon. Revered among horological aficionados and Rolex enthusiasts, the 116610LV marries impeccable craftsmanship with an undeniably distinct aesthetic.

At first glance, what captures one’s attention is the vibrant sunburst green dial, a hue that’s both striking and sophisticated. The coloration, reminiscent of deep forest green or the shimmering emerald of the sea, is complemented by the Cerachrom green bezel. Made from a hard ceramic, the bezel is not only visually stunning but also notably resistant to fading and scratching.

Housed in a robust 40mm Oystersteel case, the watch carries with it the legacy of Rolex’s pioneering spirit in underwater exploration. The Submariner, initially introduced in the 1950s, was among the first watches designed for diving and the 116610LV continues this heritage with a water-resistance of up to 300 meters.

Beyond its exterior allure, the “Hulk” boasts the Caliber 3135 movement. This self-winding mechanism, a certified Swiss chronometer, ensures precision and reliability, testaments to Rolex’s commitment to horological excellence.

Further enhancing its allure are the luminescent markers and the “Mercedes” hour hand, ensuring legibility even in the murky depths of the ocean. The date function, magnified by the signature cyclops lens, adds practicality to its list of attributes.

The Oyster bracelet, with its flat three-piece links and Oysterlock clasp, ensures both comfort and security on the wrist. It is, in essence, the perfect blend of form and function.

Rolex – bio

Founded in 1905 by Hans Wilsdorf and Alfred Davis in London, initially as Wilsdorf & Davis Ltd. Renamed Rolex by 1908 and moved its base of operations to Geneva, Switzerland in 1919.  Their success is due to their innovation namely the legendary “Oyster” case – first water resistant watch and their extremely reliable movements.
The most famous models are Datejust, Day-Date, Daytona, Explorer, GMT-Master, Submariner and many more.
The company is owned by the Hans Wilsdorf Foundation, a family private trust.
One story, never confirmed by Wilsdorf, recounts that the name came from the French words “horlogerie exquise”‘è, meaning “exquisite clockwork”.
