The Rolex Datejust 6605 is an iconic timepiece, It is among the rarest of all Datejust history, given its production span of just 3 years from 1956 and 1959.
The Rolex 6605, made in rose gold, features a 36mm case that provides an excellent balance between presence and comfort. The fluted bezel, a signature Rolex feature, is also crafted in rose gold, adding an element of luxury to the robust construction.
What sets the 6605 model apart is the ‘cyclops’ date window. It was the first Rolex Datejust model to feature the magnified date window at the 3 o’clock position, providing a 2.5x magnification for easy readability, a feature that has since become synonymous with the Rolex Datejust line.
The watch is powered by the automatic Rolex Caliber 1065, which was notable for its convenience and accuracy at the time of its release. The movement is encased within a monobloc middle case, offering excellent resistance to water and dust, testament to Rolex’s commitment to durability and reliability.
The watch is perfectly completed with a president bracelet, offering a comfortable and secure fit. This bracelet design features a five-piece link construction, emblematic of the brand’s sophistication and attention to detail. Unique to this model is the rare “Big Logo” clasp, a distinctive characteristic of the gold president bracelet associated with this watch.
Rolex – bio
Founded in 1905 by Hans Wilsdorf and Alfred Davis in London, initially as Wilsdorf & Davis Ltd. Renamed Rolex by 1908 and moved its base of operations to Geneva, Switzerland in 1919. Their success is due to their innovation namely the legendary “Oyster” case – first water resistant watch and their extremely reliable movements.
The most famous models are Datejust, Day-Date, Daytona, Explorer, GMT-Master, Submariner and many more.
The company is owned by the Hans Wilsdorf Foundation, a family private trust.
One story, never confirmed by Wilsdorf, recounts that the name came from the French words “horlogerie exquise”‘è, meaning “exquisite clockwork”
