The perfect Tantalum climax
First brought to the market in 2017, URWERK creators crafted a series culmination with the UR-105TTH ‘Tantalum Hull”. But why did this series come to an end? Watchmakers such as URWERK, with their penchant for innovation and quality, only create around 150 watches a year, and as such, some series must have their grand finale so that newer masterpieces thrive.
Featuring a tantalum shroud with subtle ribbing, the watch is slightly rounder than its original namesake. With only 12 pieces available across the world, it’s a collector’s must-have. Tantalum is a rare and unique metal, with its name arising from Tantalus, a figure in Greek mythology. Watchmakers have to be extremely meticulous when working with Tantalum, and it’s not an easy task by any means.
Tantalum weighs almost the same as platinum and brings an otherwordly feeling. Its beauty and aesthetics are unparalleled. Nearly anthracite hued, it imbues URWERK’s classic touch.
The UR-105TTH showcases a Caliber UR 5.03, automatic winding movement, with twin turbines of frequency 28,800vph – 4Hz. Its 48-hour power reserve and satellite hour Geneva are fashioned in beryllium bronze. A skeletonized carrousel finished in aluminum and the LIGA digital seconds nickel-phosphorous skeletonized element are spellbinding.
The watch has an ARCAPcarrousel and triple mainplate, enhanced by pearlage, frosting, bead blasting, screw heads, and bevels that are polished. Hand-painted with Super-LumiNova©, the hours and minutes are an aesthetic and functional addition. Further complications include satellite hours, minutes, a power reserve, and digital seconds indicators.
The case in titanium and tantalum comes in a soap bar motif and is 39.55 X 52mm X 17.8mm, complemented by a Vulcarbon© strap with a DLC buckle in black.
Urwerk – bio
Felix Baumgartner (co-founder and master watchmaker) and Martin Frei (co-founder and chief designer) first met in 1995 to discuss developing a watch. The young men were united by their common passion for measuring and portraying time. A long discussion, a sharing of philosophies and dreams, culminated in a decision to create their own vision of time.
They founded URWERK in 1997 and presented their first timepiece at Baselworld that same year.
