Description

To replace the iconic 5070 series, in 2010, Patek Philippe introduced the reference 5170J yellow gold with their first in-house manually wound chronograph caliber CH 29-535 PS with 65 hour power reserve and stunning finishing. Five years of development later, one of the first movement to get the new Patek Philippe “PP” quality seal.

Around 3mm shorter than its older brother, the case’s shape closer to its Calatrava cousins, the new reference’s first dial came with two applied Roman numerals at 12 & 6 o’clock and six gold applied batons.

In 2013, the white gold version 5170G-001 with white dial and new Breguet-style numerals was released, 2 years later a black dial 5170G-010 was also introduced.

2016 saw the rose gold reference 5170R-001 (white dial) and 5170R-010 (ebony black opaline dial) which lasted until 2018 when the platinum reference 5170P-001 with gradated blue dial and baguette diamond hour markers was released.

The present model features a “bleu degrade noir” (graduated blue-black) dial, with diamond hour-markers, lumed (modified) dauphine hands, and crisp, legible running seconds and chronograph hands; all framed in a Calatrava-style case measuring at 39.4mm, with a simple shape and flat surfaces. The baguette-cut diamond hour-markers also featured earlier on the anniversary Nautilus models. The nine diamonds on this model are very subtle, looking more like metal cut in shape of diamonds, making this one of the most versatile dress watches, which you can wear to social events as well as formal meetings just as comfortably.

The color gradation, sunburst texture, and grooved sub dials provide that extra bit of visual delight.
Inside the case is the Patek Philippe in-house hand-wound Calibre 29-535 PS chronograph movement beating at 28,800vph, with a 65hr power reserve. It was developed in 2009 to replace the modified Lemania movements in prior generations of Patek Philippe chronographs. The hacking seconds and instantaneously jumping chronograph minutes make this movement thoroughly modern and pleasing to operate. The finishing on the movement is impeccable, and is stamped with the ‘Patek Philippe seal’ of approval.

This gorgeous discontinued timepiece is offered on a black hand-stitched alligator leather strap with its original warranty certificate and box.
