There is a rich and illustrious history behind Roger Dubuis, a brand today reduced to just two collections – the Excaliber and the Velvet.

The company was established in 1995 by the late Mr. Roger Dubuis. His rich experience in the world of watchmaking, including 20 years at Patek Philippe as a watchmaker in the complications department provided him with knowledge and expertise only a few watchmakers possessed at the time. His early timepieces, the Hommage and the Symphanie are reminiscent of his time at Patek Philippe. Each variation within these two families was launched in an extremely limited number of 28 pieces each.

The present reference is an Hommage H37 5749 0 triple calendar produced in 1999. It is a very special piece as it is numbered 01/28. It features a 37mm 18K white gold case with an ivory dial displaying the day and month in two apertures and the date counter at 6 o’clock signed “Bulletin d’Observatoire” the ultimate seal of accuracy from the Besançon Observatory.

One of the few rare pieces to have a Poinçon de Genève on the dial. The calendar functions have a quick set mechanism, with pushers recessed along the case band. The movement can be admired through the sapphire caseback featuring a rotor with the RD signature in gold, with perlage on the baseplate, Geneva stripes on the bridges with beveled edges and polished screw heads. The movement also features a Geneval seal.

This is an important piece of horology reflecting a true master’s work, and is offered as a full set with box, papers and certificates, along with an extra solid gold caseback.

Roger Dubuis – bio

In 1995, Mr Roger Dubuis and his partner Mr Carlos Dias (designer) founded the company aiming to produce only 28 watches per model and each with the coveted Geneva Hallmark to attest the highest precision and quality standard hence keeping the brand’s exclusive status, initial launching the Hommage and then the Sympathie collection.
2008 saw the Richemont group acquire part of the company and since 2016 the full ownership, some of the early pieces are now known among collectors as the “pre” Richemont models, the new management expanded the manufacture and production line into new concept with more modern designs.
Mr Dubuis passed away in 2017.
