Since its inception in 2001, Richard Mille has been driven by an unyielding focus on performance, both chronometric and technical. This commitment shines through in every design and innovation, paving the way for groundbreaking timepieces like the nautically-inspired RM 015 Perini Navi, the deep-diving RM 025 with its 300-meter water-resistant tourbillon chronograph, and the highly intricate RM 050 Felipe Massa tourbillon split seconds chronograph.

With the RM 031 High Performance, the brand has ventured into the elite domain of Haute Horlogerie, combining classical finesse with exceptional mechanical attributes. Years of accumulated expertise are harnessed to create this extraordinarily accurate wristwatch.

The heart of this timepiece is its Calibre RM031, featuring an AP direct-impulse escapement developed by APR&P for Audemars Piguet. This innovative escapement merges the detent and Swiss anchor escapements to offer superior chronometric performance. With a high-frequency beat of 36,000 vibrations per hour and dual oppositely-mounted Elinvar spirals, this escapement achieves impressive efficiency. Custom-designed mechanisms prevent overbanking, leading to an impressive chronometric deviation of merely 0 to 30 seconds per month.

To maximize the efficacy of the power generated by the twin barrels, every wheel in the movement has been re-engineered, adopting a specific tooth profile with a 20-degree pressure angle. Borrowed from automotive technology, this enables consistent, long-lasting power transmission across the escapement system.

The baseplate and bridges are crafted from ARCAP, a first in Richard Mille timepieces starting with the RM002 caliber. ARCAP is acclaimed for its anti-corrosive and anti-magnetic properties, often utilized in aerospace and advanced technology sectors.

Exquisite hand-finishing techniques are applied to each component of the movement. Workmanship is evident in the microblasted baseplate and escapement-holder, as well as the polished, microblasted, beveled and circular-grained wheels. The complex four-part round case (50 mm x 13.90 mm) receives a distinct finish that combines chamfering, polishing, and brushing.

Finally, the RM 031 High Performance, available exclusively in a limited series of 10 platinum pieces, leaves no stone unturned in its meticulous design, down to the specially contoured lugs that gracefully extend the case’s lines while accommodating the curve of the strap.
