The Patek Philippe Chronographs 5070 reference was first revealed in 1998, prior to that the only last simple chronograph was the reference 1463 produced until 1968.   30 years later the yellow gold 5070J with black dial made noise with its large 42mm case, this is bigger than most of Patek’s 2018 catalogue pieces.
Its design is without a doubt being inspired by the unique aviator’s watch reference 2512, that watch sits proudly today at the Patek Philippe Museum in Geneva.
In 2002, we saw the white gold version with white dial 5070G made for about 4 years.  In 2004 we saw the rose gold version with a silver dial 5070R which was also produced for around 4 years.
*To celebrate its 20th anniversary, they released in 2008 a sunburst blue dial version in the most noble precious metal, the Platinum 5070P-001, today the most wanted among the 5070 series.  The production did last for a little over a year.
Altogether the production was limited to about 250 watches a year at that time due to constrain to manufacture the manually wound caliber CH 27-70 based on a Nouvelle Lémania movement which was completely reworked by Patek Philippe.
Among rare references some re-edition for the London Exhibition in 2015, such as reference 5070G-014 (white gold with salmon dial), reference 5070P-013 (darker blue dial than standard 5070P), reference 5070R-014 (rose gold with sunburst brown dial) and reference 5070J-12 (yellow gold with black dial).

One of the most coveted is the haute joaillerie version, also very limited production model in white gold with black dial and gemstones, reference 5071G-001, fully set with over 120 baguette cut diamonds for a weight in carat of around 12.00 ct. (bezel, size case and buckle) very sought after by collectors.

Patek Philippe – Bio

Patek Philippe & Co. was founded in 1839, located in Geneva and the Vallée de Joux. It designs and manufactures timepieces and movements, including some of the most complicated mechanical watches. It is considered by many experts and aficionados to be one of the most prestigious watch manufacturers.
In 1868, Patek Philippe made their first wristwatch, which was sold on November 13, 1876 to the Hungarian Countess.
It is the last independent, family-owned Genevan watch manufacture with uninterrupted operating history spanning nearly 180 years.
