Description

Cartier Tank was designed in 1917 by Louis Cartier, the founder himself.
Rectangular in shape, it was an unconventional design of its time and was named / designed based on the inspiration drawn from the Renault FT-17, a French tank used during the First World War. Compact in size, the Renault was an invention in itself, being the first tank to house its weapon in a fully-rotating turret.

The first prototype of the Cartier Tank was gifted to U.S. General John Pershing in 1918.
Former First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy and Andy Warhol are amongst many famous personalities who have been fans of the Tank during their lifetimes.

The design of this timepiece is so versatile that over a century later, it is still one of the most beautiful wristwatches available out there.

Today, the Tank comes in six variants:
1. Tank Louise Cartier (named after the founder) with slightly rounded lugs
2. Tank MC, which is the more masculine collection with a larger case
3. Tank Solo – the modern iteration of the reference with both square and rounded angles and a crisp dial
4. Tank Anglaise which is the largest of the collection
5. Tank Francaise – the sportier sibling
6. Tank Américaine – the featured model.

Cartier – Bio

Founded by Louis-Francois Cartier in 1847, the house of Cartier is the luxury jewellers by reference in France.
Jewellers of the royal family and their prominent entourage, they quickly acquired fame in Europe.
Later Louis Cartier gave a second life to old watchmaking traditions with pieces like the mystery clocks, gem-set watches and other flamboyant pieces.
One of their iconic models called the Santos was made in 1904 for his friend and client the aviator from Brazil, Alberto Santos-Dumont.   Followed by other successful models like the Tonneau in 1906, the Tortue in 1912 and the famous Tank in 1919 to mention few.
The brand stayed in the family until 1964 and is now owned by a Swiss watch group.
