The 70s was a challenging decade for the Swiss mechanical watch industry, and the direction to take was to introduce a luxury sports watch in steel. The Royal Oak and the Nautilus were already on the shelves and it was time for Vacheron, the oldest continuous watch manufacturer to respond.

Hence the first overseas the Reference 222 was launched in 1977. Over the years, the Overseas has evolved into one of the most recognized models not just within the Vacheron catalogue, but also in watches generally.
1999 saw the introduction of a chronograph based on a Frédéric Piguet 1185 modified with the addition of a large date mechanism. And in 2006, a dual time Overseas was added to the collection, featuring second time zone, power reserve, day night and date indications.

Since then there have been a few more complications added to the collection such as the Ultra-thin Perpetual Calendar and the Worldtime.

The present reference 47450/B01A-9226 is a rare bird which is now discontinued. The robust 42.5mm stainless steel case features a polished caseband and bezel and is satin brushed finished elsewhere.

The silvered white dial features an intricate and elaborated Overseas guilloché pattern displaying the time, date, power reserve and the second timezone sub-dial, with a day/night indicator. The 18K white gold black oxidized hands and faceted 18K white gold markers are both filled with superluminova, the second time zone subdial and the date subdial are snailed with diamond filets while the power reserve indicator is smooth finished with a polished 18K white gold curved insert.

The solid caseback features the Overseas Galleon on bas-relief with an interior anti-magnetic protective casing. On the inside is the modified Jaeger-LeCoultre calibre 929/3. The legendary caliber boasts 37 jewels, and offers a 40hr power reserve, extremely accurate running at COSC standards.

It comes on the iconic VC bracelet with its half Maltese cross links and its satin brushed and polished areas between each link. Comes with additional rubber and leather straps.
