First introduced in 1992, the Yacht-Master is the second timepiece to be inspired by the nautical environment. After the Submariner released in 1954, this model comes as an evolution in a more luxury way with a gold model, larger indexes, bigger case and bold bezel – this is the reference 16628. It has been a success along the nautical enthusiast and those looking for a chic and sporty model. This is the only Oyster Professional model, and still today, to be available in three different sizes as : 37mm, 40mm and 42mm.
In 1999, Rolex released a stainless steel version with a 40mm monobloc case, it was then the beginning of new and precious materials for the Yacht-Master.
During the BaselWorld 2007, Rolex revealed the Yacht-Master II, a larger case of 44mm and a brand new automatic chronograph movement was developed : the Caliber 4161. The stunning Ring Command Bezel controls the programable countdown. A new feature inspired by the nautical, sailing and regatta spirit.
The present reference is the Rolex Oyster Perpetual Yacht-Master 40 126679SABR. It is a member of the Yacht-Master series of watches from Rolex, which are known for their durability, precision, and elegant design.
The Yacht-Master 126679SABR features a 42mm case made from 18kt white gold, which is both scratch-resistant and waterproof up to 100 meters. The dial is covered by a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal and features a stunning black dial. The hour markers and hands are made from 18kt white gold and are filled with luminescent material for easy readability in low-light conditions.
One of the most distinctive features of the Yacht-Master 126679SABR is the bezel, which is made from 18kt white gold and set with trapeze-cut precious stones. Pink sapphire, light-blue sapphire, diamond, purple sapphire and dark-blue sapphire: a harmonious sequence of five hues that is repeated eight times. This bezel not only adds to the watch’s luxurious appearance but also serves as a practical tool for sailors, as it can be used to track elapsed time while racing. Yacht-Master inscription is at 6 o’clock on a gold plate as well as the Rolex inscription at 12 o’clock.
Powering the Yacht-Master 126679SABR is the Rolex Calibre 3235, a self-winding mechanical movement that is known for its accuracy and reliability. The movement is COSC-certified and features a Parachrom hairspring, which provides excellent resistance to shocks and temperature variations.

Founded in 1905 by Hans Wilsdorf and Alfred Davis in London, initially as Wilsdorf & Davis Ltd. Renamed Rolex by 1908 and moved its base of operations to Geneva, Switzerland in 1919. Their success is due to their innovation namely the legendary “Oyster” case – first water resistant watch and their extremely reliable movements.
The most famous models are Datejust, Day-Date, Daytona, Explorer, GMT-Master, Submariner and many more.
The company is owned by the Hans Wilsdorf Foundation, a family private trust.
One story, never confirmed by Wilsdorf, recounts that the name came from the French words “horlogerie exquise”‘è, meaning “exquisite clockwork”.
