Description

Rolex first introduced the Submariner in 1953. In 1959, the case size was increased to 40mm and the crown guards were added, and then in 1969, the date complication was introduced in the Submariner. It was also the year when Rolex made the first Submariner in gold.

Since then, there has been minor incremental changes to the model both in terms of aesthetic as well as the technical side of things. The ceramic bezel was introduced in 2010, and in 2020, the case size was increased to 41mm.

The present watch is the gorgeous Rolex Submariner Date (Ref: M126610LN-0001) in stainless steel.

It features a 41mm stainless steel case measuring 12.3mm in thickness. It features a black ceramic bezel and a black lacquered dial. The indices on the ceramic bezel are filled with platinum, the hands and dial indices are made in white gold and filled with blue Rolex chroma-light lume. The caseback too is made of stainless steel, offering 300m water resistance.

On the inside is the marvellous Caliber 3235 offering 70hr power reserve and featuring a hacking second and quick set function.

This beautiful chunk of steel comes in the iconic Oyster bracelet with polished center links and flanks, satin finished side links and featuring the super-practical glide-lock system adjustable to 20mm in 2mm increments.

Rolex – bio

Founded in 1905 by Hans Wilsdorf and Alfred Davis in London, initially as Wilsdorf & Davis Ltd. Renamed Rolex by 1908 and moved its base of operations to Geneva, Switzerland in 1919.  Their success is due to their innovation namely the legendary “Oyster” case – first water resistant watch and their extremely reliable movements.
The most famous models are Datejust, Day-Date, Daytona, Explorer, GMT-Master, Submariner and many more.
The company is owned by the Hans Wilsdorf Foundation, a family private trust.
One story, never confirmed by Wilsdorf, recounts that the name came from the French words “horlogerie exquise”‘è, meaning “exquisite clockwork”.
