Description

An annual calendar is the less complicated sibling of the perpetual calendar and only requires one calendar adjustment every year.
In 1996, Patek Philippe released the world’s first annual calendar wristwatch, the reference 5035J. This was followed up by the gorgeous 5036/1J in 1998 and then came the Gondolo Calendrio reference 5135R introduced in 2004. In 2005, two more models were added to the line-up, namely reference 5146J and 4936G (the brand’s first ladies’ annual calendar).

Patek Philippe introduced the reference 5960 in 2006, housing the brand’s first self-winding, in-house chronograph movement, Caliber CH 28-520 IRM QA 24H. A milestone in Patek’s history, this reference was initially launched in a platinum case with a grey dial and then a rosegold version was added. Then in 2014, the full steel 5960/1A was introduced on a full steel bracelet. This came in a white and a black dial. We’ve seen the platinum version in a grey, black and a blue dial and also a white gold version.
5960 was entirely discontinued in 2021, bringing an end to a benchmark reference in Patek’s catalogue. Since then, the demand for this models have been steadily going up.

The present reference 5961P-010 is an extremely rare, out-of-the-catalogue piece featuring a 40.5mm platinum case, black dial and a baguette bezel. The hour markers on the dial are also baguette diamonds that shine subtly against the rich black dial.

The dial neatly displays an annual calendar via three apertures at the upper half, a power reserve indicator at 12 o’clock, and a chronograph hours and minutes counter both at 6 o’clock, along with a day/night indicator.

On the inside is the handsomely finished CH 28-520 IRM QA 24H automatic movement offering up to 55hrs power reserve.

This gorgeous black beauty is offered on a shiny black alligator strap with a diamond-set platinum deployant buckle.
