The Nautilus collection is the sport watch by excellence since 1976. In this very year, Mr Gerald Genta designed it in a restaurant during the Basel fair. Patek Philippe was known for it’s round shaped case and classical watches, therefore, due to the high number of sport watches produced in the industry, Mr Genta decided to design a sport watch and took his inspiration in the Nautical arts and more specifically from a ship’s porthole. This design had an immediate success and is now an unquestionable collection in the Patek Philippe dynasty.

The width bezel gives a large vision on the dial as the horizon when watching through an porthole and the side lugs also called “ears” are inspired by the hinges on these windows. A simple but elegant design that helped Patek Philippe to touch a large public of watch passionates.

Years after years, the Nautilus collection’s success was colossal also due to the new versions released with a larger case or a sapphire case-back. It is considered as the must-to-have timepiece for man or woman’s lifestyle as it combines elegance, sporty and a timeless design.

Patek Philippe first introduced the reference 5990/1A in 2014. A beautifully balanced dial featuring a dual time (travel time) and a chronograph. Since then, then reference has rose to greatness becoming one of the top three most coveted and sought after Nautilus references. And it was only available in steel, until now.

In 2021, Patek took this beautiful design to a whole new level, when it launched the present reference, the 5990R – on a full rosegold bracelet featuring a blue dial. A chunk of gold has never looked more beautiful. The fans have been drooling over this timepiece since the first pictures were released and only a handful of pieces have been delivered so far.

This opulent timepiece combines the generous 40.5mm rose gold case and bracelet, with a contrasting sunburst blue dial featuring an embossed horizontal pattern and applied hour-markers. The baton-style hands are in rose gold with a luminescent coating. This new model combines three highly sought-after complications: a self-winding flyback chronograph, an easy-to-use Travel Time function (dual time-zone), and a date display, coupled with local time. The case offers a 120 meters water resistance.

The sapphire caseback reveals the gorgeous self-winding Caliber CH 28‑520 C FUS a self-winding mechanical movement finished to the smallest detail. The 21K gold rotor features Geneva stripes, with an engraved Calatrava cross. The stripes continue on the bridges which have beveled edges. The black polished screw heads play beautifully with the light.

This gorgeous movement offers upto 55hrs power reserve and is signed off with Patek Philippe hallmark seal.
