The Nautilus collection is the sport watch by excellence since 1976. In this very year, Mr Gerald Genta designed it in a restaurant during the Basel fair. Patek Philippe was known for its round-shaped case designs and classic watches, therefore, due to the high number of sports watches produced in the industry, Mr. Genta decided to design a different sports watch taking inspiration from the Nautical arts and more specifically from a ship’s porthole. This design was an immediate success and is now an unquestionable collection in the Patek Philippe dynasty.

The width of the bezel gives a large vision on the dial as the horizon when watching through a porthole and the side lugs also called “ears” are inspired by the hinges on these windows. A simple but elegant design that helped Patek Philippe touch a large public of watch enthusiasts.

Year after year, the Nautilus collection’s success was colossal also due to the new versions released with a larger case or a sapphire case-back. And the most popular among these versions is the undisputed 5711/1A blue dial.

Patek Philippe shook the balance of the watch-world when in early 2021 it announced that the 5711/1A will be discontinued. And to bid adieu to this masterpiece, a final version of 2 references shall be produced in an extremely quantity, and only for one year.

The present reference 5711/1300A-001 is one of these two references. Extremely rare to even see one in metal, this timepiece almost singlehandedly disrupted and dominated the watch industry news for almost the entirety of 2021.

A controversial timepiece, one cannot ignore it. All the hype and hoopla aside, this timepiece features the same iconic Nautilus case, but with a very subtle 40mm stainless steel sunburst olive-green dial, horizontally embossed, with gold applied hour markers.

A befitting tribute to the most sought-after reference in the market, this timepiece features the self-winding mechanical movement, Caliber 26‑330 SC. The finishing is the usual Patek quality which can be admired through the sapphire caseback.
