Description

Best known for their Grand Complications watches Patek Philippe masters the “Haute Horlogerie” and are arguably the best in the industry.
In 1989, to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the manufacture, Patek Philippe developed what is one of the most complicated portable timepiece in the world: the Calibre 89 with 33 complications but half a century ago in 1932 they had built the “Henry Graves Supercomplication” which had at that time 24 complications, including Westminster chimes, a perpetual calendar, sunrise and sunset times, and a celestial map of New York as seen from Graves’s apartment on Fifth Avenue.
For decades they did held the title of the most complicated watches built. Mastering their craft they perpetuated the skills and traditions to deliver in their current collection pieces of the highest quality.

*Reference 5004 was produced from 1994 to 2012, it is in essence a 3970 but with a split-second function also called in French ‘Rattrapante‘ (a chronograph function with two seconds hand superimposed one on top of the other, its used to measure two different event that start but don’t end together), that “little” add-on was so complicated to manufacture that they were making only a few pieces a year.  A prowess of technical mastery which explains the low number of watches in circulation.
Made in yellow, rose and white gold as well as in platinum, it remains altogether a rare reference in any metal since total production was of a few hundred pieces only. Among them, the rarest and most expensive of them all was a very unique piece made in titanium with grey dial and a red second’s hand made for the 2013 ‘Only Watch’ charity auction.

The mighty caliber CHR 27-70 Q is a manual-winding of just 30mm, offering a power reserve of 60 hours.
Fitted in a 36.7mm case, humble in comparison to its modern successor the 5204P whose size is 40.2mm.
Featuring the following functions : Date, Day, Leap Year, Month, Perpetual Calendar, Chronograph, Split-Seconds.

To mark the end of the 5004 era, Patek Philippe decided to make around 50 examples in steel under the reference 5004A-001, reserved for a very few VIP customers who even had the honour to get their names engraved on the case-back’s glass, all of them sold mostly from the Geneva salon.
In the watch-collecting-world, a perpetual calendar with split seconds made in steel is the epitome of grail watch and this 5004A one of the most coveted by fine collectors.

– Our timepiece is as astonishing as is sounds 100% brand new, it was kept in a safe untouched, viewing is possible preferably by appointment in Geneva.
