Description

Best known for their Grand Complications watches Patek Philippe masters the “Haute Horlogerie” and are arguably the best in the industry.

In 1989, to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the manufacture, Patek Philippe developed what is one of the most complicated portable timepiece in the world: the Calibre 89 with 33 complications but half a century ago in 1932 they had built the “Henry Graves Supercomplication” which had at that time 24 complications, including Westminster chimes, a perpetual calendar, sunrise and sunset times, and a celestial map of New York as seen from Graves’s apartment on Fifth Avenue.
For decades they did held the title of the most complicated watches built. Mastering their craft they perpetuated the skills and traditions to deliver in their current collection pieces of the highest quality.

Successor to the line of perpetual calendars, such as the reference 3970 and 5970, the 5270 was launched in 2011 at Baselworld.
Initially in white gold, followed by rose gold (5270R white dial) in 2015 and since late 2018 a platinum version (salmon dial) has been released.

Three dial variations were quietly introduced for the 5270G white dial (-001 -013 -018) and two for the blue dial version (-014 -019). Very few people know of its existence but a white gold 50 pieces limited edition (-015), white dial with blue chronograph hand and blue tachometer was released in 2013 for their retailer in Munich, Germany.

1st dial variation (-001 white): produced between 2011 and 2013, white (silvery opaline) dial with black gold hands and numerals, certainly the most legible among all three dial variations, the lack of tachymeter scale gives the impression of a much bigger dial.

2nd dial variations (-013 white -014 blue -015 white) produced between 2013 and 2015, the hands and numerals are now in a more classical white gold and the tachymeter scale has been added, the scale follows the contour of the subsidiary seconds counter creating what is known as “The Chin”, a rather polarizing subject among collectors.

3rd variations (-018 -019) produced between 2015 and 2017, the hands and numerals are still in white gold but the tachymeter scale now stops at the intersection of the seconds subdial, this “Chin-less” dial was more appreciated by collectors.

Announced in Spring 2018, the noble platinum case has been added to the 5270 series, with a splendid golden opalin “salmon” dial, surprising many since until then the salmon dials were generally reserved for special editions.

The present iteration reference 5270P-014 is a 2022 novelty most noticeable for the eye-catching green dial.
There are however other subtle aesthetic changes from its predecessor, the 5270P-001 with “salmon” dial. Once leaf shaped, the hands are now set in a pointed dauphine-style which matches the gold-applied hour markers, while the tachymeter scale has been replaced with a cleaner-looking minute ring.

This distinguished wristwatch is made of a 41mm round case in platinum surrounding a stunning laquered green dial with black-gradient rim. The dial showcases several functionalities in white print. A day & month window at 12 o’clock. The date and the moon-phases are displayed on a sub-dial at 6 o’clock. Visible on the two sides of that counter, are the leap year function and day & night indicator. The 30-minute counter is displayed at 3 o’clock while the 60-minute counter is at 9 o’clock.

This grand complication is powered by the hand-wound movement CH 29-535 PS Q visible through the sapphire case-back and boasting a power-reserve of 65-hours. An additional solid platinum case back is also furnished. The signature folding clasp on a shiny black alligator strap with green hand-stitching.
