Best known for their Grand Complications watches Patek Philippe masters the “Haute Horlogerie” and are arguably the best in the industry.
In 1989, to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the manufacture, Patek Philippe developed what is one of the most complicated portable timepiece in the world: the Calibre 89 with 33 complications but half a century ago in 1932 they had built the “Henry Graves Supercomplication” which had at that time 24 complications, including Westminster chimes, a perpetual calendar, sunrise and sunset times, and a celestial map of New York as seen from Graves’s apartment on Fifth Avenue.
For decades they did held the title of the most complicated watches built. Mastering their craft they perpetuated the skills and traditions to deliver in their current collection pieces of the highest quality.

In 1992, Patek Philippe launched the Ref: 5013 which was produced until 2011.
With a tonneau shaped case, aesthetically it was a reference on its own, but the combination of the complications and the way they are displayed is what carried forward to the Ref: 5213.

Immediately after the discontinuation of Ref: 5013, Patek launched the present Ref: 5213 in 2012, before discontinuing it in 2016. It featured same complications as its predecessor, but this time in a round case. It could be termed as an evolution of the 5013. It was made only in white gold and produced until 2016.
The hinged case measures 40.6mm and displays the hours, minutes, sub-seconds at 6 o’clock, a retrograde date with day and month displayed in individual apertures on either side of the date and a leap year indicator. The eggshell dial with Breguet numerals and white gold dots is absolutely stunning. It looks extremely subtle and oozes elegance.

The view through the sapphire caseback is equally stunning. Powered by the Patek Philippe automatic Calibre R27 PS QR, it features an intricately decorated gold micro rotor, with a matching gold calatrava cross-styled filigree balance bridge. The finishing on the bridges and the chamfering on the edges and the countersinks is just gorgeous. The PP seal is proof that there is no stone left unturned.
The lever on the side of the case awaits to be activated so it can let out the pure, constant rhythm of the minute repeater, with flawless acoustics. It is music to the ears – literally.
This masterpiece is offered on a black hand-stitched alligator strap.
