Description

Patek Philippe has mastered the art of Calendar complication in wrist watches for almost a century. The brand made the world’s first perpetual calendar wrist watch in 1925, and then the first serially produced perpetual calendar Ref: 1526 launched in 1941. Fast forward to 1996, Patek Philippe brought to us, the world’s first annual calendar complication, the gorgeous Ref: 5036. An annual calendar is the less complicated sibling of the perpetual calendar and only requires one calendar adjustment every year.
Building on its indisputable expertise, Patek continues to play the defining role in the development and evolution of calendar watches, with the launch of the weekly calendar complication Ref: 5212 in 2019.
The function of a weekly calendar complication is simple – it indicates the current week of the year.

The present reference 5212A-001 features a 40mm stainless steel case, measuring 10.79mm in thickness. The mirror-polished case features fluted lugs and a stepped dial, which according to Patek, is loosely based on the styling of the one-of-a-kind, ref. 2512/1 made in 1955 and sold by Sotheby’s for almost US$1M.

The timepiece features the day, the date, the month and the week function, corresponding to the month in which the week occurs. The functions are indicated by five centrally mounted hands, and adjusted via pushers within the case flanks. The dial is a gorgeous egg-shell / opaline cream, featuring a hand-written typography reminiscent of the old school calendars. Overall, it has a very warm, humane character to it, encased in the timeless classic Calatrava case.

Seen through the caseback is the Patek Philippe Caliber 26-330. A technically superior movement with stop-seconds function and several enhancements including a drive wheel made of nickel-phosphorous alloy, fabricated via the LIGA etching technique and a patented clutch wheel that winds the barrel in one direction and uncouples it in the other.
As modern as it may sound, it is beautifully hand-finished with old-school techniques featuring circular Geneva stripes across the gold rotor and linear stripes on the bridges with beveled edges, black polished screws and perlage on the baseplate. Of course, it gets the PP seal of approval.

This gorgeous timepiece is offered on a brown leather strap with contrasting white stitching, and comes with a matching stainless steel pin buckle.
