Description
Cartier’s Tank Chinoise is one of the brand’s highly distinctive and recognizable models. The tribute to the Middle Empire first emerged in 1922, its design reflecting the architectural codes of typical Chinese buildings. In 2022, celebrating a century of existence, Cartier Privé offers us two new skeleton iterations.
The present reference in Platinum 950 is a limited edition of 100 pieces. It introduces an open-worked dial with red and blue laquer, showcasing the skeletonized manual winding 9627 MC Caliber which can be admired through the sapphire crystal case back. This beautiful and refined movement is composed of 160 parts, including 23 rubies, and comes with a power reserve of approximately 36 hours.
The platinum case inspired by Chinese porticos measures 39.5mm and displays a beautiful distinction between the polished and horizontally brushed finishes. The polished grey steel hands are shaped as swords, further highlighting the Chinese heritage. The crown is fitted with a ruby, reminiscing of Chinese royalty and resonating with the dial’s color tones.
This unique timepiece comes fitted with an alligator skin strap, either in blue or grey, complete with a platinum ardillon buckle.
Cartier – Bio
Founded by Louis-Francois Cartier in 1847, the house of Cartier is the luxury jewellers by reference in France.
Jewellers of the royal family and their prominent entourage, they quickly acquired fame in Europe. Later Louis Cartier gave a second life to old watchmaking traditions with pieces like the mystery clocks, gem-set watches and other flamboyant pieces.
One of their iconic models called the Santos was made in 1904 for his friend and client the aviator from Brazil, Alberto Santos-Dumont. Followed by other successful models like the Tonneau in 1906, the Tortue in 1912 and the famous Tank in 1919 to mention few. The brand stayed in the family until 1964 and is now owned by a Swiss watch group.
