Description

Cartier Privé Cloche de Cartier, A dial with a perspective

The Cartier Privé collection is a magnum opus in the world of horology. It’s a collector’s range of timepieces and imbues Cartier’s history and elements that make the brand unique. It is also their go-to collection for looking back at legendary historical pieces and sometimes bringing in a fresh take.

Coming into fruition in the 1920s, the Cloche, marked as a jewelry or brooch watch, is recognized by its eclectic bell-shaped case. Cloche, translating into “bell” was an opulent brooch watch back in the day, explaining why the XII numeral is in line with the crown. When wearers pinned the brooch to their attire, they would turn it around and lift it for time checks. Therefore, the design was crafted in such a way that the orientation would always be right.

In 1921, the piece officially became a wristwatch 1921, and variations came to life in 1922, 1984, 1995, and 2005 with a limited 100-piece release. It has now resurfaced in Cartier’s Privé Collection with just 100 more limited edition pieces.

This present model, Cartier Privé Cloche de Cartier CRWHCC0002 comes in a pink gold case and skeleton dial. The case is measured at 37.15 mm by 28.75 mm and the height is 6.7mm. A classic “CARTIER” logo is carved at 3’o clock, while the crown features a luminous cabochon.

It features the 9626 MC movement with a total diameter of just 4.69mm, it offers 38-hour of power reserve. Each model comes with a rotated, ninety-degree dial, bringing an added touch of multifunctionality. Wearers can place it on their desk and use it as they would a clock. It serves functionality and aesthetics, a true signature of Cartier.

Offered on a hand-stitched brown alligator strap with an 18K rose gold buckle.

Cartier – Bio

Founded by Louis-Francois Cartier in 1847, the house of Cartier is the luxury jewellers by reference in France.
Jewellers of the royal family and their prominent entourage, they quickly acquired fame in Europe. Later Louis Cartier gave a second life to old watchmaking traditions with pieces like the mystery clocks, gem-set watches and other flamboyant pieces.

One of their iconic models called the Santos was made in 1904 for his friend and client the aviator from Brazil, Alberto Santos-Dumont.   Followed by other successful models like the Tonneau in 1906, the Tortue in 1912 and the famous Tank in 1919 to mention few. The brand stayed in the family until 1964 and is now owned by a Swiss watch group.
