It was the year 1984 when Audemars Piguet first introduced the Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar Ref: 5554.
It combined two of APs revolutionary watchmaking acts: the world’s thinnest perpetual calendar movement 2120/2800 and the design icon Royal Oak.

In 1985, reference 25624 was introduced in yellow gold and a diamond set bezel – a true unicorn timepiece. Then came the reference 25636 with an open-worked dial in 1986. These are just the initial references, and AP has come a long way since then, with the Royal Oak perpetual calendars being one of its staple models.

The present reference 25820SP.OO.0944SP.01 was made in 2000 during the 125th Anniversary of the brand.   It was the first time AP made a combination of stainless steel and platinum. The case and the bracelet are made in stainless steel, while the intermediate links and the polished bezel are made in platinum.

The dial features the iconic grand tapisserie in galvanised black displaying the day, date, month, leap year and the moonphase in 4 sub-dials. The hands and the indices are made in white gold.

It is powered by the Caliber 2120 produced in-house by AP. The finishing on the movement is spectacular featuring a blackened rotor running over beveled-edge bridges with Geneva stripes and black polished screws. It offers a 40-hr power reserve.
It is offered with a wooden AP winding box.

Audemars Piguet – bio

Audemars Piguet is a Swiss manufacturer of mechanical watches founded in 1875. They began in the Vallée de Joux. Jules Louis Audemars formed a partnership with Edward Auguste Piguet. Audemars created complicated blank watch movements for other manufactures to use. Piguet specialized in the final regulation of watches. They then split responsibilities when they began their own company. Audemars was in charge of production and technical aspects while Piguet focused on sales and management. One of their first achievements was creating the first repeater wristwatch in 1892 and in 1972 the iconic steel “Royal Oak”.
