When A. Lange & Söhne was resurrected in 1994, the Saxonia was one of the four models that marked the brand’s rebirth. It was named after ‘Saxony’ the cradle of German watchmaking. Over the years, this model evolved into the best version of itself, which is the super-elegant Saxonia Thin introduced in 2011. It is the thinnest Lange in the collection, offered in three sizes – 37mm, 39mm and 40mm.

In 2018, Lange introduced a gorgeous blue flux aventurine dial Saxonia Thin in a 39mm white gold case. A surprisingly stunning watch, the dial looked like a starry midnight blue sky.

The present model (Ref: 211.087) is a more recent addition introduced in 2020, which is another starry dial, but this time with a black aventurine glass dial and a 40mm white gold case. The slim baton markers and the hours / minutes hands are carved in white gold matching the case, but this basic function of the watch (i.e. timekeeping) takes the backstage, making way for the breathtaking cosmic black dial emitting a subtle coppery light.

On the inside is the Caliber L093.1, a manual-wound movement measuring a mere 2.9mm in thickness, including the three-quarter German silver plate with the trademark Glashutte ribbing, with gold chatons, beveled edges and the hand-engraved balance cock. It is standard practice at Lange to assemble every movement twice, so one can rest assured of the reliability of their timepieces. But then, that’s usual German precision.

Offered on a black alligator strap, this stunning timepiece is a boutique edition limited to just 50 pieces worldwide – naturally all sold out.

A.Lange & Sohne – bio

Founded in 1845 by Ferdinand Adolph Lange in Glashütte, Germany.  The company soon became the pioneers in watchmaking in their region.  After Ferdinand’s death his sons, Emil and Richard continued to produce the finest pocket watches of their time.
During World War II, they were victims of bombardments and eventually even got nationalised by the Soviet administration and ceased to exist. At the fall of the Berlin wall in 1990, the grand son of the founder, Walter Lange, revived the company with the help of Swiss watch manufacturers such as IWC & Jaeger-LeCoultre.   The brand introduced their new collection in 1994 with success and by 2000 the company got acquired by the Richemont Group.
