Description
The Lange 1 was part of the first collection launched by A. Lange & Söhne and quickly became the face of the brand through its elegance and catchiness. This success spurred a variety of Lange 1 iterations, in various case materials and dial colors to satisfy the many preferences of watch collectors.
These versions of the Lange 1 culminated in the release of the present watch: the Lange 1A, a limited edition timepiece also known under reference 112.021. The watch comes dressed in a golden dial enclosed in a three-layered yellow gold 38.5mm case. The case is very unique, with the case back and bezel polished while the surrounding band is brushed. Another striking feature of the case assembly is the lugs which are not integrated but rather have been soldered at a later stage.
What makes the Lange 1A recognizable by watch collectors or art lovers in general is the unique dial composition. Lavishness is – unsurprisingly – the key theme here. As not only does the Lange 1A showcase a beautiful guilloche dial made of solid gold, but practically all components of the dial are made of the noble metal. As a nice touch, even the yellow-toned date disc seamlessly blends within the dial.
Powering this beautiful and luxurious timepiece is the Caliber L901.1 which has a 72 hour power reserve, again heavily made out of gold thus blending in with the overall theme.
The Lange 1A is a very sought-after model which has come to be known as a must-have in any watch collection. Its boldness, charisma and history are a testament to this.
A.Lange & Sohne – bio
Founded in 1845 by Ferdinand Adolph Lange in Glashütte, Germany. The company soon became the pioneers in watchmaking in their region. After Ferdinand’s death his sons, Emil and Richard continued to produce the finest pocket watches of their time.
During World War II, they were victims of bombardments and eventually even got nationalised by the Soviet administration and ceased to exist. At the fall of the Berlin wall in 1990, the grand son of the founder, Walter Lange, revived the company with the help of Swiss watch manufacturers such as IWC & Jaeger-LeCoultre. The brand introduced their new collection in 1994 with success and by 2000 the company got acquired by the Richemont Group.
